FOR PARENTS
1
Q. How can I tell if my child might benefit from the UNLOCK Learning programme?
A. The UNLOCK Learning programme is effective for many children including those who struggle to access reading and spelling and those who find either reading or spelling frustrating, difficult or unpleasant. The most dramatic results are achieved with those children who are furthest behind their peers at school, however Louise has vastly improved the experiences and self esteem of children who were ‘stuck’ with one aspect of English. The Unlock Learning system accelerates learning and allows children to read and spell with confidence. If your child is reluctant to read or spell, or seems to be ‘behind’ the others in their class, then The UNLOCK Learning programme could well be the answer.
FOR SCHOOLS
Q. How many one to one sessions will each child need?
A. This depends on the child. Usually only one or two sessions are needed for all issues to be uncovered and put right. Learning the way to learn and remember words is very quick and can usually be done in the first or second session as well.
This is not an ongoing process; once the issues are resolved and the technique is learned the child can begin to progress more quickly without the need for the first phase of the UNLOCK Learning programme (the one to one part) to be repeated.

Q. Can you help with writing?
A. Yes! Once a child can see letters and words clearly then there are simple and effective strategies to help them get those letters and words onto the page. In general children become far more confident writers as a part of the UNLOCK Learning programme process.
2
Q. Will the UNLOCK Learning programme help dyslexic children?
A. YES! The UNLOCK Learning programme has proven extremely effective in enabling dyslexic children to become more competent spellers and confident readers.
3
Q. How quickly will I see an improvement in my child?
A. Most parents report an improvement in self esteem and confidence after just one session. The ability to learn and remember words is usually improved just as quickly. It does depend on the child and the issues they have as well as how much practice is done, after the session, at home.
3
Q. Will The UNLOCK Learning programme be effective for children with other SPLDs?
A. The Unlock Learning programme has proven successful for children with ADHD, those on the autistic spectrum, pupils with behavioural and emotional issues and a range of other specific needs.
4
Do we need to work on this at home?
A. Like anything we learn the UNLOCK Learning programme is most effecient when it is practised at home. Just a few minutes each day is enough.
After a session Louise will give you a simple, effective programme, based specifically on your child, which will only require a short amount of time to do. Where parents are keen to work with their children Louise is happy to give additional ideas in order to accelerate the process.
Remember: Louise is also happy to provide email support for parents after a session.

Q. Can the UNLOCK Learning programme be used with whole classes?
A. Yes! The visual strategy is very effective at boosting learning, with whole classes, across a variety of subjects including maths. A 'buddy' visual spelling method can easily be taught to pupils so that they are then able to work successfully together, independently of the teacher, which some schools report as very effective.
Best of all there are NO additional pieces of equipment to buy - The only equipment needed is a whiteboard and pen which we will supply.
5
Q. Where do the sessions take place?
A. Our Programme is usually held in School, however we can offer our private One to One Programme which can be held either in your own home or at :
Dove Lodge
49 Beach Rd, Littlehampton, West Sussex BN17 5JG
Please contact us if you would like to book a private session for your child.
5
Q. Who can be trained to use the UNLOCK Learning programme?
A. Anyone who works with children! Louise has successfully trained whole staff groups as well as running more targeted training for support staff and teachers. Any person who comes into contact with children who struggle to spell and read can benefit from the training.
6
Q. Do you use hypnosis?
A. No! The work is based on asking a series of simple questions and using the imagination, Many children perceive the process as a game and some enjoy their session so much they are reluctant to leave at the end!
6
Q. Can the methods be used in other subjects?
A. Absolutely! The visual methods taught are effective in all subjects and are easily transferable.
7
Q. Will we need to buy books or equipment?
A. No. The UNLOCK Learning programme is a process and a tool for learning. Once Louise has succeeded in enabling your child to see letters and words clearly she will teach them a learning strategy which they will then have for life. The strategy is useful in all subjects too!
The only equipment required is paper and pens, or a small white board and dry wipe pen.
Q. We have just invested in a new spelling / reading scheme, will The Unlock Learning programme fit into that?
A. As the UNLOCK Learning programme is a teaching and learning tool it can be used with any scheme that you are following. Once the children, who have been struggling to spell or read, have been enabled to see the letters and words more clearly they will progress more rapidly through any scheme that is in place.
Teachers can use the Unlock Learning methods to enhance learning whilst using any other teaching scheme in other subjects as well.
